How to Change DirectAdmin Admin Password?


Sometimes you might need to recover or change your DirectAdmin admin user password, e.g. in case you lost it. It is easy to do that from SSH command line.

Follow These Steps to Change DirectAdmin Admin Password

Check DirectAdmin installation log. This log will display the password which was set during the installation.
Log in to your server via SSH command line and type the following:

cat /var/log/directadmin/install.log | grep Admin

Sample output:

cat /var/log/directadmin/install.log | grep Admin
Admin user created
Admin username: admin
Admin password: S1vhutnd54K
Admin email: admin@dnhdasg.host1plus.com
Then enter your Admin username and password when prompted.

You can change your current password to a new one in case you have already changed the password after DirectAdmin installation.
It can be done by running “passwd admin” command:

passwd admin
Changing password for user admin.
New password:
Retype new password:
passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully.

Your admin password has been successfully changed – you can log in to your DirectAdmin panel with your newly created admin password.
