How to add SSL to Joomla?

Follow These Steps to Enable SSL on Your Joomla Website

Purchase SSL (secure socket layer) from your provider or reseller host then ask the provider to enable the SSL certificate for the use on your domain

Browse to access your web hosting account use the file manager to locate the .htaccess files in your root directory sites download and save them to your computer.

Open the .htaccess files utilizing the notepad or some other text editor and add the following code in the text file

Click on the force SSL drop-down box and select the entire site option and click on the ‘Save’ icon on the upper right of your global configuration page. Joomla now enforces SSL to all users.

Log in to the Joomla site just as you normally do. Because you changed the .htaccess file Joomla will now redirect standard http request to the more secure https page for you to log in to Joomla global configuration allows you to configure SSL, but if a guest enters Joomla through a non https this guest is not automatically redirected.
