How to Clone a Content Type in Drupal 7

It is possible to clone content types in Drupal 7 using a simple module called “Bundle Copy“. Before you can enable this module you need to install support module used for Drupal content management called “Chaos Tools“.

Follow These Steps to Clone Content Type in Drupal 7

Download support module called Chaos Tools(ctools) from official Drupal website: http://drupal.org/project/ctools.

Extract and upload the “ctools” directory to your “/drupal_site/modules/” directory as seen in the image below:

Enable the module by logging in as your administrator user and opening “Modules” section as seen in the image below:

After installing and enabling ctools next step would be setting up “Bundle Copy” module. Follow the steps below to enable this module:

Download module called Bundle Copy from official Drupal website: http://drupal.org/project/bundle_copy

Extract and upload the “bundle_copy” directory to your “/drupal_site/modules” directory as seen in the image below

Enable the module by logging in as your administrator user and opening “Modules” section as seen in the image below:

After enabling both modules you will be able to use two new features in Structure -> Content Types section called “Export” and “Import“. In order to make a copy of your content type you will first need to export it, adjust few lines and then import it.

After exporting the content type find lines that contains text “type” and “name” and change their values depending oh you want to name your new content type, see the image below:

After making necessary adjustments import all the code using new “Import” feature and your new content type will be available for use, see the image below:
